Serving Through Care Net [CHOOSING JOY by K. Albers]

With a new sibling due in a few weeks, there is a lot of talk about babies at our house.  As we begin pulling down stored baby items, my six-year-old son is enjoying playing with the baby toys and trying to squeeze into his old baby clothes.  “Look, Mama!  It still fits!”  He thinks this is hysterical, even though the long sleeves end at his elbows.  My three-year-old daughter squeals with delight each time we open a new box exclaiming, “It’s so cute!”  She cannot wait to help change diapers.  We’ll see how long that lasts!  So when I spoke with a dear friend about how she volunteers with Care Net Pregnancy Center of Owensboro, God laid it on my heart that this would be a perfect place to fulfill our family resolution of a service project once a month for January.

Care Net offers women free pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, abortion counseling, pregnancy and parenting classes, and a baby boutique where women can earn free baby supplies.  Their baby boutique is fully funded by donations from the community so they are always overjoyed to accept a surprise gift of diapers, wipes, lotions, and other baby items.

What makes Care Net truly unique, however, is their commitment to the physical and spiritual health of the parents and babies that they serve.  The counselors are adamant about the sanctity of life and work tirelessly through Christian love to make sure their clients understand the difficult consequences of abortion.   They understand that

“Children are a gift from the LORD; they are a reward from him.” Psalm127:3 (NLT)

We praise God for places like Care Net Pregnancy Center that are serving the Lord so faithfully.  And we praise God for the opportunity to support their good efforts this month.
