The following was released by Allegiant Airlines this morning regarding flights from Owensboro to Las Vegas. While it is not discussed in the release, the decision was most certainly caused by the increase in fuel prices over the last few months.

Allegiant (NASDAQ: ALGT) today announced it will end its scheduled service between Owensboro-Daviess County Regional Airport (OWB) and Las Vegas McCarren International Airport (LAS).  The carrier’s last day of service will be August 13, 2012. Customers with reservations beyond that date will be contacted directly by Allegiant for a full refund.

“We are always disappointed to stop servicing a route,” said Eric Fletcher, Allegiant Travel Co. Manager of Airports. “We apologize to any travelers who are inconvenienced by this decision and hope that Owensboro travelers will still keep us top of mind for service to Orlando, Florida”

Allegiant began service between Owensboro-Daviess County Regional Airport (OWB) and Las Vegas McCarren International Airport (LAS) on  October 14, 2011.
