The forecast for Thursday and Friday of this week is predicting the wind chill temperature to dip below 10 degrees Fahrenheit on Thursday evening and 13 degrees Friday evening.  This could affect many of the City's homeless population.Owensboro's first White Flag emergency shelter plan for the homeless of our community will go into effect on Thursday and Friday as cold weather moves in.  This plan was created by the Homeless Council of the Ohio Valley.  Whenever temperatures or wind chills drop below 15 degrees an alert is issued.

The first White Flag shelter will take place at New Life Baptist Church, 400 Crabtree Avenue if all other shelter beds are full.  Many people utilize the white flag shelters because our local homeless shelters become overcrowded during the winter months.

Anyone needing shelter Thursday or Friday is encouraged to go to the Daniel Pitino Shelter at 501 Walnut Street, after 5:30 p.m.  Dinner will be provided for everyone before being bused to New Life by GRITS.

If someone needs transportation to the shelter after 7 p.m. please contact the Pitino Shelter at 270-688-9000.
