Daviess County Man Charged with Infant Murder

We're just learning that a Daviess County man has been charged with murder in connection with the death of his infant son.

According to the Daviess County Sheriff's Department on Friday, April 20, the Daviess County Sheriff's Office, the Daviess County Fire Department, and Yellow Ambulance
Service Responded to a 911 call at 2633 Wimsatt Court regarding a 3 month old infant child that was unresponsive.
Off duty Sheriff's Deputy, Kelsey Skaggs, was near by and responded to the home, where the caller (infant's father) was still on the phone with 911. She immediately began CPR, and was then assisted by other responding deputies that arrived shortly after.
The child was transported to Owensboro Regional Medical Health, and then life-lighted to Nortons Children's Hospital in Louisville.
After arrival at Norton's, the child was immediately transferred to the pediatric intensive care unit.
Dr. Melissa Currie of University of Louisville Pediatric Forensic Medicine determined that the infants injuries were diagnostic of abusive head trauma. The child succumbed to his injuries on Thursday, April 26. An autopsy was performed by Dr. Amy Burrows-Beckham, a state medical examiner has issued a preliminary diagnosis that the infant died due to non-accidental traumatic injuries.
The father of the child, Austin Haaff, age 22, who was the only person present at the residence at the time of the 911 call, was determined to be the "person of interest" in the investigation.
Earlier today, he was interviewed and acknoledged his actions that were consistent with what constitutes "shaken baby syndrome" a severe form of physical child abuse.
Mr. Haaff has been charged with Murder a Class A Felony which is a capital offense that carries penalties of 20 years to life. He is being held at the Daviess County Detention Center. A bond has not yet been determined.

The Daviess County Sheriff's Department and all involved ask that you keep the families from both sides in your thoughts and prayers as the funeral service for this precious baby boy will be held tomorrow.
