Bent-grass.  Open country.  Land converted for arable use.  WHAT??  Does any of that make sense to you?  Trust me!  It doesn't make any sense to me and, according to Ancestry.com, it should.  Apparently, that's what the last name "Benefield" means.  See, Ancestry has this really cool (unless your last name is "Benefield") tool that helps you determine the meaning of your last name.  Check it out!

Last night, I was combing through Yahoo! News and came across this new feature from Ancestry.  I decided to try it out and share it with you guys.  Now, hopefully, you'll be a little more satisfied with the meaning of your last name than I am with mine.  I am still trying to figure out what "bent-grass" and "open country" mean.  Quite honestly, all I can picture is a bunch of cows grazing in a field.  Maybe the cows are Benefields?  Who knows?

I looked up "Wharff" for Brett and guess what it means?  Brace yourselves.  This is really eye-opening stuff.  His name means "someone who lives be a Wharff or works at one."

While I continue to search for answers in the Benefield mystery and laugh at the total lack of mystery with the Wharff family, you guys take a crack at it.  To find out the meaning of YOUR last name, CLICK HERE!
