Well, just shows to go ya how often I get down to the north end of Frederica, but then again maybe THIS did start back up rather quickly.

I'm talking about the renovations on Theatre Workshop of Owensboro's Empress Theatre, former home to the Malco movie theatre and Goldie's.

I appreciate WFIE's Jonathan McEmber getting in there and showing us what's been happening.

Also, those old marquee lights will be replaced with LED's.

Man, I remember going to movies in that old barn many, many times when I was a kid. In fact, despite the presence of the Plaza Twin in Wesleyan Park Plaza and the Mall Twin where Owensboro Christian Church is now, I think I did go to more movies at the Malco when it was in the Empress when I was young.

Let's see, there were Herbie the Love Bug movies. I think I saw two of them there. My grandmother took my sister and I to see Lady and the Tramp there and 101 Dalmations.

You know, those are the only two animated Disney films I saw growing up. Seriously.

Oh, there was The World's Greatest Athlete, another live-action Disney film.

Just so many.

And I remember the very last movie I saw at the Malco in the Empress. Unfortunately, it was St. Elmo's Fire. And, no, it's not one of those movies that's gotten worse with age; I didn't like it THEN.

Do you remember the last movie YOU saw at the Malco in the Empress?
