Former Owensboro Catholic golf standout John Augenstein finished in the top 5 over the weekend in one of the sport's most prestigious amateur tournaments.

A 15-year-old by the name of "Jackie" Nicklaus finished runner-up in the tournament in 1956 and several current and past PGA Tour, Champions Tour, Walker Cup, and Ryder Cup players have competed in the Sunnehanna Amateur.

Augenstein, who just finished his sophomore year at Vanderbilt, tied for 4th with a final score of 275 with individual round scores of 72-67-68-68. Louisville native and UK grad Cooper Musselman finished third.

The Sunnehanna Amateur was introduced in July of 1954 and it was the first country club sponsored 72-hole stroke play competition for amateurs in the United States.
