Movies about country music legends have done very well at Oscar time over the years. Sissy Spacek won the 1981 Best Actress trophy for her portrayal of Loretta Lynn in Coal Miner's Daughter.

In 2006, Reese Witherspoon picked up the same award when she channeled June Carter Cash in Walk the Line. Joaquin Phoenix was also nominated that year for his role as the legendary Man in Black.

And in 1986, Jessica Lange received a Best Actress nomination for playing Patsy Cline in Sweet Dreams.

So it seemed that either British actor Tom Hiddleston as Hank Williams or Elizabeth Olsen as Miss Audrey, or both, would be in the running for I Saw the Light.

And by the way, Hiddleston does his own singing.

But competition for this year's race apparently was too stiff and the biopic about the country legend has moved to a March 26th, 2016 release date.

I can't wait to see it.

(By the way, if Hiddleston's name is unfamiliar to you, his face probably isn't. He played Loki in the first Avengers movie.)

Here's the first official full-length trailer:
