Here Are 16 Reasons to Visit Owensboro in October

October is my favorite month. And Owensboro plans to do it up right. VisitOwensboro.com has released its 16 reasons to visit during the best month of the year.

In chronological order, we begin with:

This will happen October 1st on the Holiday Inn Riverfront's back lawn and will extend to the Riverwalk. It's open from 10AM to 5PM and is free to the public. Painted Horse Recording Studio will provide music. Later that evening, there will be a private artist reception and silent auction from 6:30 to 8:30 with proceeds donated to the Owensboro Art Guild, a non-profit that will use the funds for community outreach programs in the arts.

TWO's production of Arsenic and Old Lace is Sunday, October 1 at 2PM. I've seen the movie version with Cary Grant. It's a really funny dark comedy about two spinster sisters who poison lonely old men with their "special" elderberry wine. Later in the month, from October 27th through the 29th, TWO will present the comedy Dead Man's Cell Phone. Hey, it's October. It's dark comedy time. And TWO has a spooky history, anyway.

The series continues with an October 5th performance by the Stray Birds and an October 20th performance by Bill and the Belles.

You're invited to join the WKBC for its final work session of the year. It's happening Saturday, October 7th, from 9AM to Noon and lunch will be provided.

Nothing says "fall" like a visit to Preservation Station and with over 100 vendors present on October 7th and 8th, you won't want to miss Market Days.

Classic cars, classic cars, classic cars! I love it! And especially on a fall afternoon. The Cruise-In begins at 3PM on Saturday, October 7th. Gates will open at 2 and you can enter from 3rd and Allen.

Trunnell's in Utica has loaded up the month of October with a wide variety of exciting events like The Great Pumpkin Fest – October 7 & 8; Fall Break Family Fun on the Farm – October 9 – 13; Moonlit’ Harvest Fest – October 14; Harvest Fest – October 15; Fall Squash-N-Pumpkin Gobble Fest – October 21 & 22; and Halloween Bash & Pumpkin Smash Fest – October 28 & 29.

And, of course, OctoberFest is this weekend!

Trunnell's on 54 will offer up Farm Animal Day – October 9 · 11am-1pm; Pumpkin, Paint, & Picnic – October 10 · 11am-2pm; Mommy & Me: Create Your Own Carmel Apple – October 11 · 11am-2pm; Mommy & Me: Spook-Tacular Treats – October 12 · 11am-12pm; Leaf Art Day – October 13 · 11am-2pm; and Pumpkin Spectacular – October 14 · 11am-3pm.

Remember when Bugs Bunny said that monsters were such INTERESTING people? Well, they're interesting CATFISH, too. We'll see that play out at America's largest catfish tournament on Saturday, October 14th. The tournament weigh-in will at 4PM at English Park.

Over 30 restaurants and regional wineries will offer irresistible samples at the annual all-you-can-eat affair on October 16th at the RiverPark Center. Dove Award winner, ASCAP Christian Music Songwriter/Artist of the Year winner, and 4-time Grammy nominee Matthew West will be concert at the Owensboro Convention Center Thursday, October 19th. West has also won an American Music Award, a Billboard Music Award, a K-LOVE Fan Award, and was named Billboard's 2016 Hot Christian Songwriter of the Year. 'Tis the season to COSTUME UP and put on your dancing shoes. The Owensboro Museum of Science and History will host its 2nd annual ball on October 21st at the O.Z. Tyler Distillery. Reserve your tickets by calling the museum at 270-687-2732. Proceeds will benefit the museum's expansion of educational programs for children and adults. The event will begin at 6:30 and will be catered by Moonlite.

One of the city's biggest annual events is the Apple Festival and it seems to get bigger every year. Get ready to dive into ALL THINGS FALL and APPLES, APPLES, APPLES on October 21st and 22nd at the orchard! Not to be missed! And don't forget...the Reidland Play Area is open Saturdays 10AM to 4PM and Sundays 11AM to 5PM through October 28th.

I've seen a performance like this on the General Jackson in Nashville, and it is AMAZING! You'll be able to see this incredible troupe at the RiverPark Center on Sunday October 22nd. Tickets are available at OwensboroTickets.com or by calling 270-687-2770.

Bring your costumed kiddies to downtown Owensboro on October 26th. Local businesses and organizations will be hosting more than 60 booths and handing out candy. Trail of Treats will begin at 5:30PM.

And just two days before the scariest night of the year, you'll be able to enjoy the beginning of the 2017-2018 season of the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Troy Quinn in his inaugural season. Tickets are available by calling the RiverPark Center box office at 270-687-2787.
