In nine seasons, Tom Crean took the Indiana Hoosiers to the Sweet Sixteen three times. Speaking as someone who ALSO lives in a state that BLEEDS basketball, I know that that just isn't good enough.

And so does IU.

And, so, IU and John Calipari's good friend Tom Crean are no longer a couple.

And, really, in nine seasons, only two highlights leap to mind about Indiana--their buzzer-beating upset of top-ranked Kentucky in 2011 (they'd go on to meet again in the 2012 Sweet Sixteen that season where the 'Cats would avenge the loss) and winning the Big Ten in 2013 on its way to a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, the school's first in two decades.

I think Tom Crean is a good coach. He led Marquette to the Final Four in 2003 with a certain future superstar named Dwyane Wade.

And that leads me to the next statement: Tom Crean is a good recruiter.

But as flush with talent as Indiana has been recently, it seems that three Sweet Sixteens as the program's ceiling was a bit underwhelming.

And, so, now we march on to wonder who will fill Tom Crean's shoes in the months to come.

The Hoosiers won't rush this decision, but if I were them, I'd go after Gregg Marshall at Wichita State hot and heavy.

He's a GREAT coach with a Final Four, a 35-win season, and another Sweet Sixteen appearance on his resume--and that's just the last four years.

But we'll see what happens.

And a rabid fan base north of the Ohio will anxiously await a decision about, arguably, the biggest job that will be open during the off-season.
