Kentucky has been ranked the 4th fattest state in the 2018's Fattest States in America analysis by WalletHub. Not a place we want to be on the list that's for sure.

Kentucky made the Top 10 in these categories to earn the 4th ranked position on the list:

5th highest % of obese adults and 4th highest % of obese children and 4th highest % of adults with high cholesterol.

The 7th highest % of adults with Type 2 Diabetes and 6th highest % of adults with Hypertension.

We have a lot of work to do to improve these rankings. Our life, health, family and children depend on it. I'll be the first to admit that I have WORK to do. I look in the mirror every day and see it for myself.

Wallethub Methodology

In order to determine the fattest states in America, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across three key dimensions: 1) Obesity & Overweight Prevalence, 2) Health Consequences and 3) Food & Fitness.

We evaluated those dimensions using 25 relevant metrics, which are listed below with their corresponding weights. Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, with a score of 100 representing the fattest state. For metrics marked with an asterisk (*), we calculated the population size using the square root of the population in order to avoid overcompensating for minor differences across states.

Finally, we determined each state and the District’s weighted average across all metrics to calculate its overall score and used the resulting scores to rank-order our sample.
