December 1st marked the beginning of meteorological winter. With that in mind, the National Weather Service wants us to be mindful about what to look for as the year's coldest months approach.

It's already day three of Kentucky Winter Weather Awareness Week, so let's get into it.

In the Ohio Valley--and particularly here in western Kentucky and the tri-state--"winter weather" has meant a great MANY things.

You know as well as I do that we get it all--snowstorms, warm sunny days (relatively speaking), ice, tornadoes, even flooding.

We run the gamut.

This week, the NWS is covering a different topic each day.

It began on Friday with a discussion about winter weather watches, warnings and advisories and continued Saturday with a review of winter weather preparedness--for you AND your pets.

Sunday's focus is on the types of winter weather and what conditions are present that let us know they're coming.

Now, I know this is set up as a daily thing at the NWS website, but if you want to go ahead and take a look at the rest of this campaign's information regarding cold weather safety, spring-like severe weather that we INVARIABLY tend to experience at least once during winter, fog safety, and flood safety, then click away on those links I've provided and have yourself a merry little meteorological winter.

Of course, if you're a huge fan of FALL and aren't ready to let go, then the calendar STILL says December 21st is the official first day of winter. You know, the winter solstice.

So, everybody wins.
