Kentucky State Police and other law enforcement officers in the Commonwealth were incredibly active last year during this time frame.  From July 1st to July 5th of 2016, there were 428 DUI arrests statewide.  Authorities also investigated 71 DUI-related crashes and ten fatalities.

This year, the Kentucky State Police are announcing plans to beef up patrols again in order to keep the roadways safe.  According to Trooper Corey King, you "should expect to see more troopers and officers on the roads as well as encountering various roadway safety checkpoints. An enhanced amount of safety road checks will be conducted this week and running through next week."

He continues, "Of course, the intent of a traffic safety checkpoint is to provide for a high visibility, public safety service, focusing on vehicular equipment deficiencies, confirming appropriate registration/insurance of vehicles and the valid licensing of drivers. Other violations of law and/or other public safety issues that arise will be addressed."

You can expect to see increased patrols and safety checkpoints in Daviess, Henderson, Union, McLean, Ohio and Hancock Counties.  And, as always, you can see the list of KSP road check locations by visiting the KSP official website.  Locations are subject to change and you're urged to visit the site periodically for the most up-to-date information.

Happy 4th of July!  Please celebrate carefully and responsibly!
