oday is opening day for the NSA Girls’ Fast Pitch ‘B’ World Series Tournament hosted by Evansville and Owensboro, Ky. Over 225 teams from 15 states have qualified to compete in this championship that will be played at Deaconess Sports Park, Vann Park in Newburgh, IN., Owensboro Softball Complex, and Panther Creek Park in Owensboro.  The tournament dates are July 18 – 24.

This is the largest sporting event to be held in this region with more than 3,500 hotel rooms booked and over 8,000 visitors expected. The Evansville Convention & Visitors Bureau estimates the tournament will contribute $2.1 million to the local economy.

The Opening Day events will be held at Deaconess Sports Park beginning at 11AM until 3PM today. From there, the celebration moves to downtown Evansville for a parade on Main Street beginning at 5:30PM followed by the Official Welcome by Mayor Lloyd Winnecke at the Ford Center at 6:30PM. A luau block party outside the Ford Center will feature inflatables, food trucks, trampolines, and live music from 7-9PM. There is no charge for people to come watch the tournament games beginning tomorrow!

For the parade and street party, Main Street from Riverside Drive to 5th Street will be closed beginning at 3PM today.
