On Friday afternoon at around 1:25, Owensboro police were called to the Super 8 Motel on Goetz Drive.

An employee had discovered a suspicious device in an unoccupied room.

Once the police arrived and examined the item, they determined that it was a potentially hazardous situation. They, then, evacuated the surrounding area.

Later, at about 4PM, the OPD's Hazardous Devices Unit removed the item from the motel and rendered it safe via one of the department's disruption devices.

The eastbound offramp from the bypass to Frederica Street was temporarily blocked during the examination and subsequent neutralization of the device.

The investigation into the device is ongoing.
