What began as Red's Fish House of the South Picnic has become the Red White and Blue Picnic for Daviess Countians. While the Chamber sponsored event has moved, changed formats and and grown slower than many had hoped it is still very much alive.

The Political gathering next Monday will bring most state-wide candidates to town to meet voters and hopefully gain support for their respective races. The location is Reids Orchard's Events Center off Hwy 144.  For about three hours the normally quiet Orchard becomes the political place to be in the Bluegrass State.

It makes no difference what News25's weatherman Wayne Hart predicts, I can assure you it will be hot. Maybe that should be the hot SEAT for those who will speak. The short (timed by yours truly) 5 minute or less stump speeches must be to the point and passionate.

While many come for the fellowship or the food, others come for the politic's and speakers. Some of us come simply because GATEWOOD will be there. Gatewood Galbraith is a 64 year old attorney and a perennial candidate for Governor. He is a vocal proponent of the legalization of Cannabis. He is an outspoke proponent of education, civil liberties and privacy rights. He is a hoot to listen to.  Gatewood is a cross between Justin Wilson, Mr. Haney on Green Acres and Fred Sanford. He is worth the price of admission, which by the way is free.

I may have forgotten to mention that I will again this year be one of the emcees for the picnic. I love it when I get to hold the time clock and countdown the time for the speakers.

For those looking for something more formal in the way of an invitation, here is the Greater Owensboro Chamber's announcement on the picnic:

"Nearly every candidate for statewide office has confirmed they will attend the Chamber's Red, White and Blue Picnic next Monday evening, September 12 at Reid's Orchard. The picnic will run from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. A $5 hamburger meal will be available from the Daviess County Cattlemen's Association. Chamber members and the public are invited to attend. There is NO charge for admission. "
