Since Tish holds a very busy schedule most days of the week, I wanted to give her an exercise that she could do anywhere, but especially at work, or maybe even during a board meeting, if seated in a chair!

The exercise is called a Seated Trunk Rotation with a weight. As the exercise progresses it is called a V-Sit Rotation.

You can start out by sitting on the edge of a chair. Sit up tall with good posture holding a medium dumbbell in front of your chest. Keeping the abs contracted, rotate the torso to the right while keeping the hips and legs facing forward. Contract abs to bring the weight back to center and then rotate to the left. Repeat for 8-12 reps.

To progress this exercise, simply sit on the floor with both knees bent and feet on the floor. With really good posture and belly SCOOPED, lean back and hold. Rotate the weight from hip to hip and bring the pace up if you want. Use the waist muscles, the obliques to do the rotating, the arms should just be along for the ride while holding a weight.

Another progression that I love doing in my Pilates classes at Owensboro Christian Church Rec Center, is to lift both feet off the floor as you lean back and rotate. This would be called a V-sit Rotation. This is most challenging, and it is sort of Fun trying it and seeing if you can do it! I believe You can do just about anything You think you can do!

Since Girls Inc. is all about inspiring Girls to be Strong, Smart & Bold, I thought this scripture fit beautifully with their mission.
