Jason Koger is the Father of Billie Grace, Cambell & Axell. His wife, Jenny is a Shaped by Faith model and one of my faithful fitness students at Owensboro Christian Church Rec Center. Jason was the first bi-lateral amputee to receive two bionic hands.

His life was changed on March 1, 2008 when he was electrocuted on his grand father's farm during an ATV ride. Jason is the best at whatever he is doing and he is doing his best by serving God all over the world by sharing his story! I was humbled and blessed to be able to interview him about what happened and listen to how God is doing those greater than things through Jason. You don't want to miss this interview that airs August 7, 8, 9th @ 8:00 AM on Shaped by Faith 99.1 FM & 1490 WOMI AM.

Jason is a turkey hunter and went hunting a month after his accident. One of the exercises a hunter needs to be doing is an exercise to strengthen the calf muscles. Hunters need to walk quiety in the woods while they are hunting, strong calf muscles and a strong core will help them be the master hunter.

All of us could benefit from this simple exercise that we could be doing anywhere, anytime. Think about the time you spend just sitting, incorporate this calf raise exercise the next time you sit down and then progress it to standing. Lift one foot off the ground, pointing it behind you. Rise up on the ball of your other foot as high as you can go. Lower back down to the ground, not allowing your heel to touch the ground in between repetitions. Perform one set of 10 to 12 repetitions. Switch legs and perform one set on the other leg. Do three sets on each leg, alternating legs to give your muscles a recovery period.

Jason demonstrated the beginner, to intermediate to the more challenging version by balancing on one leg and lifting his heel up. I thought he did great!

To modify this exercise, simply hold onto a chair or a table.

The calf raise will strengthen your lower legs and calf raises are often used as a rehabilitative exercise for Achilles tendon injuries.
