My daughter, Karen Lowe, posted this today. She is going to the Dominican Republic to help provide surgical care to an area that has none.

In a effort to help others the organization sponsoring the trip is encouraging participants to get sponsors for the trip. (cost around $1,000). If you can help Karen out please do so. Parents are limited in the amount of funding we are permitted to provide so we are turning to family and friends.

My wife, Karen explains this much better than me.

I will be joining a medical mission group that will be going to San Juan de la Maguana in the Dominican Republic from September 29-October 6, 2012. I would like to ask you to consider supporting me, either with finances or with your prayers. The trip will cost approximately $1100 (for 7 day trip).

This Medical Mission group will be comprised of a primary care team as well as a gynecologic surgery team. The surgery team will be performing gynecologic surgeries, such as hysterectomies, while the primary care team will be seeing patients in some of the more remote clinics.

The area that we will be serving has approximately 18,000 people living in about 4 square miles of barrios. Few, if any of these people have running water or electricity and live in shanties with dirt floors. Most of these people have little access to any type of health care, as the government provides very little funding for health care. The Clinic Christiana serves an important role in delivering needed health care to this area. If you would like to learn more about the organization and the clinic, please visit http://www.solidrockinternational.org/programs/ccsi-clinic/

If you would like to make a tax-deductible financial contribution, checks can be made out to Solid Rock Missions, with “Medical Mission Trip to Dominican Republic” on the memo line. Please send it to me and I will deliver it into the trip account.

I appreciate your consideration and hope that you will keep me in your thoughts and prayers.
