Squirrels are notorious for chewing through all kinds of wires. However, there are reports that "ravenous squirrels" are to blame for the delay of Kentucky getting high-speed internet across the state.

Ravenous? Wouldn't a ravenous squirrel be devouring his or her prey? This is all very ominous.

Kentucky lawmakers at the capitol are questioning whether the squirrel reports are true because officials with KentuckyWired now want to borrow an additional $110 million to continue the project.

The project began in 2015 while Steve Beshear was governor. The intent was/is to bring over 3,400 miles of high-speed, high-capacity fiber optic internet to all 120 counties. The project was finally set to go live this past April. The project officials were also denied additional funds due to "unanticipated borrowing costs".

This new request for funds would address a gap in the network here in Western Kentucky and outfitting data centers. Final construction on the project is expected to be completed next year.

Contractors will purchase armored fiber for wooded areas to keep the ravenous squirrels at bay.
