Because it's in our natures, we immediately spring into action both physically and emotionally when faced with a disaster of the magnitude of Hurricane/Tropical Storm Harvey.

The catastrophic, unprecedented flooding that residents of Houston and southeast Texas are currently experiencing is going to require months, if not years of recovery.

We all can help and we all WANT to help. But there are ways that folks try to help that aren't particularly helpful, even though they do mean well.

My friend Evelyn Miller is the executive director of the Western Kentucky Chapter of the American Red Cross and she really encourages those who want to help to make a monetary donation by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS or visiting www.redcross.org/donate/hurricane-harvey.

You can also text HARVEY to 90999 and that is so easy because that will just be added to your phone bill.

The Red Cross can stretch $10 dollars better than anyone.
