Okay, I've written about it before, and this won't be the last time I write about it, but I love marching band! I am a proud alum of the Ohio County Marching Eagles, and I attended the 60th Ohio Co. Marching Band Festival (the oldest in Kentucky!!) over the weekend with my sister. In 2015, show themes have certainly changed. Case in point, as Hillary and I walked around we noticed one band parent wearing a t-shirt with a bio-hazard symbol on the back. Could it be?

Yes! The Edmonson Co. Marching Wildcats took on a "Walking Dead" theme! The show started out with a guard member screaming her head off and running from behind one of the partitions. The remaining color guard and the field commander then started their zombie stomp, stagger, etc. out into their first positions. The pit, the front percussion ensemble got creative with their outfits.

Bio-hazard suits baby! Hillary whispered to me they could've done a "Breaking Bad" theme too, hilarious! The band ran from the infected guard at first, and soon they could not avoid their fate. By the way I loved the color guard!

One trend we noticed, and the flags were all beautiful, was that a big majority of them were screen printed. A nice lady, who my family and I have been friends with for years, used to help sew all the flags for OC's guard. She was there last night, but we never could find her (sorry Georgia!), but I had a little post show discussion with her on Facebook after the show. One of the moments we discussed was this ending from McLean Co.'s show.

I will never forgive myself for missing it! Yes, I had my head turned when McLean's field commander was mock-killed at the end of the show. She was just out like a light. I was paying more attention to the awesome flag seen above with the fist. And did she get up when the show was over? Nope, she was carried off, limp as a noodle. I think we all thought she got into character a little too much, but this is how the marching scene has always been about ultimately, putting on a great show. The sunset Saturday night wasn't bad either.

One note: congratulations to Apollo and Daviess Co's marching bands. They both competed at Murray State's Festival of Champions Saturday. Apollo and Daviess finished 3rd and 4th respectively in Sauturday night's finals!

And...I almost forgot, Owensboro High School took the Overall Grand Champion prize at Ohio Co, way to go!
