"Did anyone see who was driving that truck?" the Kansas Jayhawks might have said tonight after getting crushed by the Kentucky Wildcats 72-40 in game two of the State Farm Champions Classic in Indianapolis. The funny thing is, UK's offense was just okay at a 43% shooting clip.

It was that lockdown, smother-'em-if-you-got-'em defense that sent KU to the bus reeling from its fourth-worst-ever defeat.

It sounded like Kansas coach Bill Self was doing a little reeling of his own:

I gotta hand it to Coach Self. It's the line of the day and further proof that the guy's a pretty genial sort and recognizes something unique when he sees it.

I saw it. I couldn't believe it.

Honestly, any team can stay in any game if it plays defense the way the 'Cats played defense tonight.

And, as for the platoon system? First, let's dispense with the term; it's called DEPTH. I'll own up to not believing it would really work against the better teams on Kentucky's schedule. But I'd say the team ranked #5 in the country (at the moment) would qualify for that category, so I'm salting my roasted crow and preparing to dine.

No Wildcat was on the floor for more than 21 minutes.

Twelve of them scored with Dakari Johnson leading the way with 11 points.

Wow!

I like good defense. I know offense makes for a good show, and I get it and that's fine. But I like--no, LOVE--watching good defense play out.

And this was great defense, superior defense.

Now, if we can just quell that ridiculous and inevitable 40-0 talk, there's a season to enjoy.
