Daviess County Middle School will host Ray Harper as special guest for a testing K-PREP rally to encourage students to do their best on upcoming state assessments. The rally will begin at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, May 2. The school is located at 1415 East Fourth St.

The school has adopted a theme of “The Testing Games: May the Odds Be Ever In Your Favor” as part of the overall spirit of kids making good-faith efforts on K-PREP tests.

The rally will incorporate a message from Coach Harper, who led the Western Kentucky University men’s basketball team to the NCAA tournament as part of March Madness, after being named head coach of the Hilltoppers. His team won the Sun Belt Conference Championship – which few expected them to win – and played in one of the greatest comebacks in NCAA history this year as his team played in front of President Barack Obama. Harper won two NCAA Division II championships as head coach at Kentucky Wesleyan College, and won two NAIA championships as head coach at Oklahoma City University. Overall, he has coached in six NCAA Division II championship games and three NAIA championship games, for a total of nine championship games. While playing college basketball as a student-athlete at KWC, he played in two Final Four games.

In addition to Harper’s message, the K-PREP rally at DCMS will feature lots of games, excitement and recognitions. Students who have earned Proficient and Distinguished status on testing will be recognized, with names drawn at random to receive special prizes. Games and competitions will include a mathematics/hula hoop contest and Velcro/felt target boards as students “aim” for Distinguished ratings. Everyone will be wearing red and white to show school spirit for both DCMS and WKU.
