Certain Chicken Products Sold at Some Aldi & Krogers in Indiana & Kentucky Recalled

There has been a recall of some poultry products over concerns of Listeria.

According to the USDA, Tip Top Poultry is issuing a recall due to concerns over Listeria. Tip Top Poultry has several ready to eat poultry products. Concerns were raised over their frozen cooked, diced or shredded, RTE chicken products.  The products in question were produced from January 21, 2019- September 24, 2019 and product codes range from 10000 to 19999 and 70000 to 79999.  Products subject to the recall will also have the establishment number  “Est. P-17453” inside the USDA mark of inspection.  It is said that multiple samples of these products tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes.

The USDA says there haven't been any confirmed cases of illness associated with these products it's better to be cautious. Consuming food that has tested positive for Listeria monocytogens can lead to Listerosis.

Here's what the USDA has to say about Listerosis:

Consumption of food contaminated with L. monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that primarily affects older adults, persons with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women and their newborns. Less commonly, persons outside these risk groups are affected.

Listeriosis can cause fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms. An invasive infection spreads beyond the gastrointestinal tract. In pregnant women, the infection can cause miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery or life-threatening infection of the newborn. In addition, serious and sometimes fatal infections in older adults and persons with weakened immune systems. Listeriosis is treated with antibiotics. Persons in the higher-risk categories who experience flu-like symptoms within two months after eating contaminated food should seek medical care and tell the health care provider about eating the contaminated food.

The USDA is concerned that many of these ready to eat poultry products could already be in consumers fridges or freezers, so be sure to check. These items were sold at several Aldi and Kroger stores including some stores in Indiana and Kentucky. So be sure to check if you shop at either of those stores.
