Best Hole-in-the-Wall Diner in Illinois was Born in Little Italy

When you think of a 'hole-in-the-wall' restaurant, what comes to mind? It might be the kind of diner that was born 64 years ago in Chicago, Illinois' Little Italy which was just declared the best in the state.

There's a brand new ranking that was just shared earlier today by MSN which rated the very best hole-in-the-wall restaurants in each state of America. Their choice for Illinois is a popular one. This is one of their creations.

Congrats to Fontano’s in Chicago which was born in Little Italy in 1960, but now is in virtually every part of the Windy City. You haven't truly lived until you've tackled their famous meatball sub challenge.

The Fontano's menu choices honor the Italian heritage including "Wise Guy", "Big Al Italian" and the Caputo. This is the original location at 1058 W. Polk St. in Chicago.

Fontano's was named the best sandwich stop in the nation back in 2012 by Zagat. This new ranking praised the high quality of their bread and the awesomeness of their pizzas, too.

I don't agree with much of what the internet thinks is the best this or the best that, but Fontano's is a good choice for hole-in-the-wall restaurant honors. Can't think of a better option in Illinois for sure.
