I want to be clear that I do not hate Illinois, so don't shoot the messenger. I'm just letting you know that the Land of Lincoln has just been named the most hated state in America and the blame is firmly on Chicago.

When I saw this new top 10 most hated states in America list shared by World According to Briggs on YouTube, I figured Illinois would make the list because it's very much in fashion to hate on the state. It really is. However, I would have guess that California would be at the top of the hate list. I was wrong. California is 5th most hated way behind Illinois.

Why do so many people hate Illinois?

As I've already said, the "cool kids" have decided Illinois is a whipping post. Much of the blame really must go to Chicago as those who don't live in the Midwest view the Windy City as the representative for the entire state. Don't like the crime in Chicago, then you can just blame Illinois. Think Chicago gets too much snow? It's the fault of Illinois. Think taxes are too high? Well, that's a valid thing to ding the entire state for come to think of it.

I have lived in Illinois many times in my life and rarely had a bad experience. The taxes do suck on certain things, but the Illinoisans I know and sometimes work with are amazing. The state really does not deserve all the massive hate it gets, but then again, I'm not one of the "cool kids".
