2 of America’s Most Hated Highways Cut Through Illinois
Everyone has a road that they just hate to travel on. According to a nationwide survey of more than 3,000 drivers, 2 of America's most hated highways call Illinois home and I agree they are annoying for a number of reasons.
This massive survey which asked thousands of drivers which highways they hate the most came up with 100 that are the most loathed in the United States. Illinois proudly has 2 of the top 15 and I bet the first one is one you can guess without me revealing if you've driven through Illinois more than once.
#9 most hated highway in America is I-90/I-94 in Illinois
If you love backed up traffic and huge delays getting where you need to be going, you'll enjoy I-90/I-94. It has both of those in spades.
#15 most hated highway in America is I-290 in Illinois
If you Google "traffic jams", you'll probably see Chicago and I-290 in Illinois in the results. If, on the other hand, you really like listening to your car idle while you wait for traffic ahead of you to move, it's an interstate party there.
I think the geography of Chicago with the city design bending around Lake Michigan makes it difficult to design a roadway/interstate system that would be efficient. If anything, these Illinois interstates make the Chicago Transit Authority even more popular (well, sort of) with the bus and train options.
