This week, we have not one, but two, pets currently looking to join the purr-fect family. Meet our Pets of the Week from the Vanderburgh Humane Society, Hanky and Spanky.

Hanky & Spanky's Story

The story of how this bonded brother and sister pair arrived at the VHS starts off a little rough. They were two of three kittens dumped at the shelter and were considered to be in "critical condition." Fortunately for them, if there was anywhere they were going to be dumped, the VHS was the best place. The staff nursed them back to health and now they're perfectly healthy and ready for adoption.

You'll notice in the video above their eyes look a little concerning as both deal with a bit of "gunk" coming from them. The VHS says there's absolutely nothing to worry about. The vet believes their eyes were left damaged from the severe eye infection they endured as babies. Their third eyelid will always look kind of wonky and get weepy, but it doesn’t affect their vision or quality of life.

What Are Bonded Animals?

According to House with a Heart:

Bonded pairs of animals have generally grown up together. While often siblings, non-siblings can bond as well. Although every animal can develop bonds, there are times when these bonds are so close that one or both animals decline when not with the other.

While you could adopt either Hanky or Spanky, it is preferred you take them both. Their adoption fee is $80 each which covers everything every adoption fee at the Vanderburgh Humane Society covers; spay or neutering, up-to-date vaccinations, and microchipping.

If you'd like to get a jump on the adoption process for Hanky and Spanky, or any of the animals the VHS offers that you might be interested in, you can fill out some of the paperwork in advance on the VHS website.
