50th Anniversary Of Six Flags Great America In Illinois

I remember going to Great America the first summer it was opened in 1976. I was super excited to go check it out but I learned quickly the timing wasn't great. I was too young and little to ride the majority of the rides. It wasn't the best experience ever but I was ready to come back again down the road.

The next summer, my family's visit to Great America was much better. I was able to ride all the attractions and I had a blast. I became a huge fan of the amusement park. We would go at least once every summer to check out the new rides and our old favorites.

When I got into high school, my friends and I started getting season passes. That meant several trips to Great America each summer. We knew that place like the back of our hands. I've got so many great memories of that amusement park.

Recently, Six Flags merged with another amusement company. Rumors were floating around that the new organizations could close some parks. I was concerned about the status of Great America. Luckily, it's not going to happen.

There was even some bigger news announced. To celebrate Six Flags Great America's 50th anniversary, the company will be making millions of dollars in improvements to the amusement park in Illinois. This makes me so happy.

These upgrades help to secure the future of Six Flags in Illinois and specifically, Great America. I couldn't imagine Gurnee without those great rides and entertainment. I'm looking forward to checking it out.
