Here’s Why an Indiana Man Invited Neighborhood Kids to TP His Yard [PHOTO]
I live in a tiny little town in Southern Indiana called Chandler. There’s not much here—just gas stations, churches, and a school. If we want to visit a Walmart, we have to drive to Boonville or Newburgh. When we first moved here, we weren’t really sure what to expect, but I’ll tell you, our neighbors are absolutely wonderful. Our entire family ended up getting involved in everything that happened at our daughter’s elementary school. It’s like everyone just comes together in this tight-knit little community.
We even have a town Facebook group, which is full of life. Sure, there are the occasional heated debates, but for the most part, it’s light-hearted and a great way to stay connected with the people who live nearby. Big shout out to the lady who gave me some hostas last summer! Unfortunately, the deer have been munching on them nonstop, but they always seem to bounce back in the spring.
Halloween 2024 at Bill's House
On Halloween, our neighbors threw a big block party with food, games, live music, and tons of fun for kids and families. It’s always such a special event that really brings everyone together. The one thing I have never wanted to do after Halloween night, though, is clean up TP!
So, when I saw this post from Bill Moorman, I was totally shocked, horrified, and—well, I’ll admit—had a little laugh too.
Thank you to my neighbors who help clean up today. And thank you so much to all who participated in last night's shenanigans. The amount of laughter and families having fun was fantastic!!! Already making plans for easier targets for the little ones next year. Last night was an absolute blast!!!
He invited kids and families out to have a little managed mischief. So, naturally, I had to reach out to him to see why he would not only let but encourage a bunch of kids to TP his yard!
What Was Bill Thinking?!
"Well, I'm Gen-X. Halloween used to be so much fun. Free candy and mischievous activities. I feel like kids are getting burned out on all the safe parking lot trunk-or-treats before Halloween and I wanted to put the 'trick' back in it. Harmless vandalism, and sneaky laughter. Just plain FUN! The amount of laughter and families having fun was ABSOLUTELY worth DAYS of clean-up. I just wanted to make it as fun as it was in 1985. Keep some tradition alive and let kids make memories."
He went on to tell me that everyone seemed to really enjoy it. His favorite part was watching his teenage son throwing TP around like a little kid and even his retired neighbor got in on the action.
"We don't get as many trick-or-treaters as we used to, and I figured this was a good way to get people out having fun again. We didn't do it for us, we did it for them. And even our teenager acknowledged it was more fun to give smiles than get candy."
Bill told me that they will be expanding the "mischief managed" activities next year and a few people chimed in the chat volunteering up their home for the festivities as well.
