Beloved Community Pharmacy In Owensboro Closing Its Doors After 39 Years
Owensboro Family Pharmacy bids farewell after 39 years of exceptional service. The community mourns the loss of a trusted pharmacy known for its compassionate staff and personalized care. What will be the impact on customers' prescription needs in the area? Here's what we know.
OWENSBORO FAMILY PHARMACY AND WELLNESS IS CLOSING
The amazing owners took to social media to share the sad news. They shared their rich history, how customers will be impacted, and more.
With heavy hearts and deep gratitude, we announce the closure of Owensboro Family Pharmacy, an independent pharmacy that has proudly served the Owensboro community for the past 39 years. Our last day of operation will be August 8, 2024.
In August of 1985, when my dad, disheartened by the lack of personal care and attention at the large chain where he worked, asked my mom to join with him in making a difference and opening an Independent Pharmacy. He and Daisy launched The Medicine Shoppe, driven by a vision to provide a more personalized and compassionate approach to pharmacy care. For 39 years, we have fought as a family to keep their shared vision alive, committed to meeting our patients' needs with the dedication and warmth that only a family-run business can offer. They always operated from the core value of treating others the way they would want to be treated.
Due to the mounting impact of escalating fees imposed by Pharmacy Benefit Managers, and Insurance companies, recent changes in the healthcare environment, our ongoing struggle to remain financially viable, the depletion of our personal savings, and the heartbreaking closure of many of our fellow independent pharmacies, it is with great sadness that we announce the end of our battle to stay afloat to serve our community.
A Heartfelt Thank You--
To our loyal customers: Your trust and support have been the cornerstone of our 39 years of success. You were not just a name or a number, you have been an integral part of our family. We are deeply grateful for the relationships we've built and the moments we've shared. Your health and happiness have always been our top priority, and it has been an honor to serve you.
Choosing Stability for Our Patients--
We felt a responsibility to choose the place to send our patients that was the most stable and capable of continuing the high level of care they deserve. Despite being offered a deal by a large chain pharmacy corporation, and after careful consideration, we have decided to partner with Kroger on this transition. We believe Kroger’s commitment to community healthcare and robust infrastructure will provide the best ongoing support for our patients.
Continuing Your Care--
We are committed to making this transition as smooth as possible for our customers. We have partnered with Kroger to ensure continuity of care. Your prescription records and healthcare information will be securely transferred, and you can expect the same level of dedicated service at Kroger.
Final Words--
What we are most proud of is the genuine relationships and family we have built here with our customers. We have been honored to support you in your best and worst times. We will remember every pregnancy announcement, diagnosis, celebration of healing, and life. We loved celebrating your wins and being there during the losses.
Thank you for all the years of trust. On a personal note, this is the only job I’ve ever had, and as we step into this uncertain and untraveled territory, we are looking forward to the next chapter after much prayer. Dad and I always loved literature and poetry, and the quote from my dad I always remember him quoting was from Robert Frost: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I- I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.”
Mom (Daisy) is excited to spend more time with her grandbabies, and I’m looking forward to being more present for my 3 young children. I will continue my service as a naturopath, consultant, functional medicine educator, author, speaker, and pharmacist in a different capacity, with more details to come.
As we close this chapter, we hope you will stop in, share your memories with us, say goodbye, or to help us wish Daisy a happy retirement.
Thank you for being part of the Owensboro Family Pharmacy family.
Sincerely,
Daisy and Jes
