June Snow in Indiana? Nope, But It Sure Does Look Like It
I suppose I could do a story about the coldest temperature we've ever had in June in these parts, but I don't think the number would be as surprising as I'd like it to be. Still, I'll keep that thought on the back burner.
Snow in June? Think Again
I do know this, unlike May, we have never experienced snow in June in Kentucky or Indiana. But I double-checked Indiana anyway, and a table I found at wunderground.com lists the latest snowfalls in selected cities in the four regions of the United States. June 12th is the latest date on the list. It occurred in 1969 in Great Falls MT. So yeah, Montana. Not a huge surprise. (Well, it may have been that day.)
Cottonwood Trees
Okay, so no June snow, but that doesn't mean the cottonwood tree doesn't want us to think so. They're beautiful and create an amazing outdoor ambience, but especially when those cotton pods do their thing like they did recently in Michigan City IN. At a glance, it looks just like a June snowstorm. Heaven forbid.
It may be June, but snow appeared to be falling at Washington Park Beach in Michigan City, Indiana. Don't worry...

We have eastern cottonwoods here in Kentucky, and I've seen them in action but not quite like what those folks saw up north.
Cottonwood Pods Resemble Snow
Yeah, it's kind of like when you blow on a dandelion, and those pods go everywhere. I'm not sure where "skiekitty" made that video, but that's more like what we're used to seeing.
Still, I have friends up north, and it would be fun to edit a video of a cottonwood going all "Michigan City" bananas, send it to them, and see how long they believe we had snow in June in Kentucky.
(Hopefully, not long, to be honest. My friends ARE intelligent.)
