Don’t Let the Cold Slow You Down, These Kentucky Attractions Stay Open All Year
If you think I'm a big fan of winter just because I hate the intense heat of the dog days of summer, you are mistaken. Besides, winter has its own dog days according to K9 Sprinter.
To me, winter always feels longer than any season, mainly because we can't spend a lot of time outdoors. But that doesn't mean the world stops during the coldest months, either.
There's plenty to do in Kentucky, for example, because the Commonwealth offers several attractions that are open year-round.
The Louisville Mega-Cavern
The Mega-Cavern hits peak traffic levels during Halloween and Christmas, but you can zipline year-round in the cavern, where it's always 58 degrees. It's the only underground zipline in the world.
Churchill Downs
If you don't dig ziplining, head to Churchill Downs, where you don't have to wait until the Kentucky Derby to enjoy this historic landmark.
And I can attest to how fascinating Churchill Downs is at other times of the year; I've never even been there in May, and I've enjoyed myself every time.
Newport Aquarium
It's the dead of February, and you've just seen a mini-doc on YouTube about eels or sharks or sea turtles and you want to experience them up close and personal. Well then, off you go to the Newport Aquarium. I doubt sea creatures like winter any more than you do.
Corvette Museum
You could conquer the winter blues with a tour of the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green where nobody leaves without a picture of the sinkhole--as eerie an exhibit as it is fascinating. And it is deep.
And if none of those strike your fancy--surely at least ONE of them must--do like I did and search "Kentucky winter attractions" and you will be good to go. There's so much to do in Kentucky, you just can't limit it to three seasons.
