Sparky Animal Rescue Hosting Mama’s Family Costume Contest & Fundraiser
One of the best events of 2025 was the Mrs. Roper Romp in downtown Owensboro. It was a fundraiser for Saving Paws Animal Rescue of Kentucky. SparKy organized a scavenger hunt along the river and 2nd street with stops at all of the watering holes, of course. No Regal Beagle, but the dress code was all caftans, big jewelry, and a fabulous attitude.
TOTAL blast! We've gotta do another caftan crawl this year, but not until we have fun celebrating another iconic TV show and raise some more money for the precious dogs and cats that come through the rescue. Sparky recently shared this community impact report, which they deserve a round of applause for!
Y'all know we love our Pet of the Week and all of the amazing volunteers who work tirelessly to help care for them. They sure do know how to have a good time, too!

Saturday, January 17th, Sparky is hosting a Mama's Family Costume Contest at The Pub on Second. I know you remember Mama! and Naomi, and Vinton, and Bubba, and...oh man, SO many wonderful characters.
That song is instant nostalgia! With Vicki Lawrence bringing her two-woman show to the Riverpark Center on January 20th, that is perfect timing.
We'll also play Singo (music Bingo), and if you bring a donation for the Sparky Pet Pantry, you'll be entered into a drawing for a prize! And I don't guess you *have* to dress up as Mama or any of her family members, but it will be A LOT more fun if you do!
Here is the link for tickets to the event. 7 PM! See ya there! Now to decide whether I want to whip out my knee-high pantyhose or pull my blonde wig out of the costume closet...
