Summerween is Here! Go Ahead & Put Up Those Spooky Decorations
After a weekend of fireworks, food, friends, and family, I think it's safe to say that July 4th celebrations were a success. Your neighbors may be keeping the party going with late-night pyrotechnics, but for most of us, we're looking ahead to the next major holiday.
Halloween, But Make It Summer
Not to give poor Labor Day the shaft, but a new trend has emerged encouraging folks to go ahead and decorate for spooky season. Halloween + Summer =Summerween. Come on, you know you want to! I know there are LOTS of Halloween fans out there, so if getting the ghosts and skeletons out in the middle of July makes you happy, I say go for it.
Stores Jump on Summerween Trend
You certainly won't be alone; my social media feeds are filled with Summerween crafts and decorating videos. Of course, major retailers are jumping in skull first with lines of merchandise that are too cute to pass up. A little ghosty with sunglasses on or floating in an inner tube? I totally "need" him!
Where to Buy Summerween Decorations
Michael's Craft Store, TJ Maxx, Wal-Mart, Home Goods, and creative folks on Etsy offer up everything from pineapple jack-o-lanterns to mummies wearing bikinis. It's so silly and fun with a hint of creepy. I love the pop of bright colors mixed in with the traditional orange and black. A perfect way to go ahead and sneak in what is normally festive in the fall.

Ideas to Celebrate Summerween
So who cares what anyone else thinks?! You can do whatever you want in your own home. I honestly think that Summerween needs to become "an official thing," though. Trick or treating in warm weather vs. cold or rainy? Carving a watermelon? Bobbing for oranges at a costume pool party? See?

Who's with me? If you celebrate, send me a picture of your decorations on the AppChat. Happy Summerween!
