We thought it would be fun to find country songs that mention Kentucky somewhere in the lyrics. It turns out that there were plenty of songs to choose from. Here's our top ten.

10: Bourbon in Kentucky- Dierks Bentley

This one is pretty obvious.

9: Blue Kentucky Girl- Loretta Lynn

Another easy one here from a living legend in country music.

8: Kentucky Gambler: Merle Haggard

Another legend of country music right here, the late great Merle Haggard. Toward the end of the song, the lyrics go like this:

"Kentucky gambler, there ain't nobody, waiting in Kentucky
When I ran out, somebody else walked in
Kentucky gambler, looks like you ain't really very lucky
And it seems to me a gambler loses much more than he wins."

7: Nothin' But The Taillights- Clint Black

Here's one that some younger country music fans may not recognize or remember, but it was a big hit for Clint Black. This is where Kentucky gets mentioned:

"Blue Kentucky highway, headin' for the line

She hadn't said a word all night

But the wheels are turnin' in her mind"

6: Get Your Shine On- Florida Georgia Line

This was yet another smash hit for Florida Georgia Line a few years ago. Be careful, this one is pretty easy to miss if you're not paying attention! But FGL does indeed mention Kentucky:

"Feelin' lucky, got hooked up with some Kentucky clear

So slide that little sugar shaker over here

And get your shine on!"

5: Boys Round Here- Blake Shelton

A lot of people forget that Blake gave a shoutout to Kentucky in this song. If you listen carefully, you'll catch it pretty easily! Here it is:

"Ain't a damn one know how to do the dougie

(You don't do the dougie?) No, not in Kentucky

But these girls round here, yep, they still love me"

4: She's Country- Jason Aldean

This was yet another huge hit for mega superstar Jason Aldean. I completely glossed over the fact that Jason mentions Kentucky in this song! This is very cool!

"A hell raisin' sugar when the sun goes down, mama taught her how to rip up a town

Honey drippin' honey from the holler in Kentucky

Get ya flipping kinda trippie like a Mississippi hippie"

3: Where I Come From- Alan Jackson

Oh yes, the man himself Alan Jackson! This song was released in 2000 and it was very successful, to no one's surprise. Here's the Kentucky mention:

"Well I was headed home on 65
Somewhere around Kentucky
And the CB rang for a bobtail rig
That's rollin' on like thunder"

2: Kentucky Rain- Elvis Presley

I mean, do I really even need to explain this one? The iconic Elvis Presley with another all time classic here.

1: Blue Moon of Kentucky- Bill Monroe

Yes, this timeless classic is our number one song that mentions the state of Kentucky. It just captures the emotional connection that citizens have with the bluegrass state.
