White Flag Event Saturday Night in Owensboro
We can't seem to shake winter here in the Tri-State. Oddly enough, the first day of Spring on the calendar is this coming Monday. Bitterly cold temperatures tonight into tomorrow morning have determined a White Flag event.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, the White Flag criteria, which is 15 degrees Fahrenheit or lower air temperature and/or wind chill, will be met Saturday night in Owensboro. Here is the announcement from Daviess County Emergency Management Agency Director Andy Ball:

RE: WHITE FLAG WARMING CENTER (SATURDAY NIGHT ONLY)
According to National Weather Service (Paducah), White Flag criteria (15ºF or lower air temperature and/or wind chill) will be met Saturday night (March 18, 2023).
A White Flag event signals the opening of an overnight emergency shelter that will be open to all men, women, and children.
• Hours of Operation: 6:00 P.M. – 7:00 A.M, unless beds are available at another shelter. Daytime sheltering will also be available at Daniel Pitino Shelter.
• Location: Daniel Pitino Shelter

• Meals: Available at Daniel Pitino Shelter during normal meal hours.
• Transportation Options:
o Saturday: The last OTS busses run at 3:30 P.M. **Inform the bus driver you are going to the White Flag shelter. ** Contact Daniel Pitino Shelter at 270-688-9000 if transportation is necessary after the final bus run.
o Self Transportation: Those seeking shelter on White Flag nights may transport themselves to Daniel Pitino Shelter between 6:00 P.M. and 7:00 A.M.

White Flag is coordinated by Daviess County Emergency Management and the Homeless Coalition of the Ohio Valley, with the support of Daviess County Fiscal Court, the City of Owensboro, and participating shelters within Daviess County.
