Why Everyone’s Obsessed With This New Orleans Fashion Gem

One of my favorite things about the internet is that if the almighty algorithm knows you well, you'll stumble upon an influencer or content creator you really enjoy following.

That's what happened earlier this year when a petite woman dressed to the nines, chic black bun and wine-red lips, popped into my newsfeed on Facebook. She introduced herself as Yvonne LaFleur and gave a little tour of her boutique, which she has owned in New Orleans since 1959.

The rooms are set up with different departments like accessories, casual wear, fragrance, wedding & ball gowns, and more. It feels like you are stepping into her magical closet of beautiful things. Maximalism at its finest with quirky decor and Parisian vibes. Framed photographs, artwork, and vintage advertisements cover the walls.

I was immediately hooked by her lovely speaking voice and cadence while she beautifully described her gorgeous scarves and luxurious cashmere sweaters. The epitome of class, but at the same time, witty, whimsical, and charming. With every video, I learned something new and interesting about her.

How she traveled across the world designing her own clothing line. Throughout the years, she's collected stunning antique furniture, display pieces, vintage flowers, and ribbons for making custom hats. Because Yvonne is, of course, also a skilled milliner. All while being a loving wife and raising seven children. That's superwoman status in my opinion!

Her story is definitely one of "girl power," having basically been raised in retail with her mother and three aunts all working in fancy department stores. There is no doubt she is an expert at her trade. In her videos, she often shares advice for choosing the right colors or fit for yourself.

At the end, she always encourages people to wear what they feel comfortable in and to never be afraid to be themselves or put on something fun and adventurous. I think that's part of why I adore her so much. I 100% approve of that message of authenticity and breaking free of the trend of looking like everyone else.

When Chad was there last week for a conference, I texted him and told him he HAD to go there. I'm sure he didn't plan to visit a dress shop on his trip, but he happily obliged. A few of the lovely ladies he was traveling with tagged along with him, and once they got there, Chad surprised me with a FaceTime call!

He was my personal shopping assistant and even introduced me to Yvonne! She was very busy taking care of her customers, but she graciously picked out a pair of earrings for me that are just my style. They perfectly match a necklace I already own. While they were being gift-wrapped and sprayed with her signature perfume, the group got together for a selfie.

I don't know that Yvonne ever thought she would be a viral internet star, but that much fabulousness just has to be shared with the world. Are you already familiar with her? Or is this the first time you are hearing about this southern fashion icon?
