Evansville Road Signs Go Off Script

If you drove through Evansville this week and did a double take at a digital road sign, you’re not alone. Some of the city’s electronic message boards decided to play tricks on the Evansville community. Instead of the usual “ROAD WORK AHEAD” or “MERGE LEFT,” drivers were greeted with some unexpected comedy lighting up the streets.
That’s right, a few digital traffic signs were hijacked and started flashing what drivers considered funny (and definitely unofficial) messages. While the city works to figure out who’s behind the prank, it’s hard not to admit Evansville drivers got a little unexpected entertainment during their commute.

Hijacking Road Signs Could Lead to Distraction Which Could Lead to Destruction

Officials are reminding folks that while it might seem harmless, hacking into these signs isn’t exactly a joke to the Department of Transportation. Those signs are meant to keep drivers safe, not deliver punchlines. But you can’t deny it’s not every day your GPS and a construction sign both try to make you laugh on the way to work.

A Joke is a Joke But Keep In Mind…

So if you’re heading out around Evansville and see a road sign that makes you giggle, enjoy the laugh but maybe also give a little nod to the hardworking crews who are now changing passwords faster than you can say “Detour Ahead.”
Because let’s face it, Evansville traffic might be slow sometimes, but our sense of humor? Still running at full speed.
