With the extreme heat that we are dealing with this week, it is very important to stay hydrated.

How to Stay Hydrated

According to John Hopkins Medicine you should drink water before you are thirsty. I am so bad at that. I'll drink water first thing in the morning, and then it just doesn't seem appealing. Is it Dangerous to Drink Ice Water During a Heat Advisory?

You might've seen stories on social media warning you about drinking ice water when it is dangerously hot outside. Adam Schaub of Houston, Texas, was working outside in the 100 degree heat, and drank two bottles of ice cold water. The next thing he knew, EMTs were on scene.

I started seeing spots, my stomach got extremely nauseous and my hands and feet started tingling. I felt like I was going to throw up, so I opened the truck door and the next thing I know I fall face-first to the ground and my dad’s rolling me over and wiping off my face. He said my eyes had rolled back a bit, and I didn’t come to for a few minutes.

The Bottom Line

According to the water experts at Culligan, that ice-cold water affects people differently, depending on pre-existing conditions. If you have a sensitive stomach, really cold water can cause stomach issues. If you have a circulatory condition, drinking ice-cold water very quickly can cause your blood vessels to constrict and could lead to a stroke. This is really only concerning for those with pre-existing conditions and the elderly.
