SIAC Had a Historic 2025 Baseball Season

As a whole, the Southern Indiana Athletic Conference (SIAC) had one of the best baseball seasons in a long time. The conference was super competitive, with several teams winning their sectional and regional. In the end, three SIAC schools advanced to play for an Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) state championship. Keep in mind, there are only four championship games, and three of them featured an SIAC school. You can't deny how impressive that is.

Time to Celebrate the Season’s Best

Now that the 2025 high school baseball season is all wrapped up, it's time to hand out a bunch of awards and recognize the best student athletes. This is done by each team/school, the school district(s), and by the SIAC, which recently announced its 2025 All-Conference Team. There is also recognition at the state level, and that's where YOU come in.

The Indy Star, which has been recognizing outstanding ball players each week this season, just put up a new poll to name the IHSAA Player of the Year. Now, think about how many high school baseball teams and players there are in Indiana. Somehow, the field was narrowed down to 30 players for this poll. I just looked at the nominees and was so excited to see that four players from the SIAC were included. That right there is another indication of how good our conference was this season.

Take a look at the four super-talented SIAC student athletes being considered for this award. Once you've done that, there's only one thing left to do - VOTE!

Will Coleman, Castle High School

Will has been a varsity starter since his freshman year, so it's no surprise to see him on this. The Castle pitcher earned five wins with a 1.30 ERA and 103 strikeouts. He did alright at the plate too, finishing with a .378 average. Will is committed to play baseball at the University of Kentucky next season.

Matthew Fisher, Evansville Memorial High School

Matthew Fisher was the most dominant pitcher in the SIAC. I saw him pitch twice (both times against my son's team), and I'm here to tell you this young man is special. He ended the season with six wins, a 0.76 ERA, and 61 strikeouts. He was also named the Indiana Gatorade Player of the Year. Matthew is committed to Indiana University, but he is also a strong prospect for the upcoming MLB draft. It's exciting to see what's next for him!

Jack Levin, Jasper High School

Jack had an amazing season at the dish and on the mound. He batted .342 with 42 runs scored - he had 20 RBIs, six doubles, one triple, one home run, and 34 stolen bases. As a pitcher, Jack went 5-2 with two saves, a 1.67 ERA, and 56 strikeouts over 46 innings. Perhaps the most impressive thing about Jack is that he's only a junior. Just imagine what kind of numbers he will put up next season as a senior!

Conner Watson, Evansville North High School

I had the pleasure of seeing Conner pitch several times this season - unfortunately, one of those was a dominant performance against my son's team. Connor's arm is electric, and led him to a 7-0 record with a 0.90 ERA and 77 strikeouts over 62 innings. He's no slouch at the plate either, batting .309 with 15 runs scored, 20 RBIs, seven doubles, and one triple. Next up for Connor is playing ball for Vincennes University.

I hope you take a minute to show these young men, their schools, and our conference some support by casting a vote for any/all of them. The poll is open now, and voting ends at 11am (Central) on Wednesday, July 2nd.
