The Beaver Dam Amphitheater hosted a record crowd back in May for singer/songwriter John Prine. Before he came to town, he arranged for something charitable for the community for which he would be performing. His gift was revealed this past week.

Prime's family donated $10,000 to the Ohio County Schools Family Resource and Youth Centers.

The singer's management contacted Beaver Dam Mayor Paul Sandefur a few weeks before the May 11th show about making a contribution to the community. Prime's family does a lot of work with substance abuse treatment, shelters, clinics, and they wanted the money to go to that type of endeavor.

After some brainstorming, Sandefur contacted the Ohio County Schools and they came up with a possible donation to the Family Resource and Youth Services Centers which helps students in situations where they have drug and alcohol abuse issues at home.

Sandefur was pleasantly surprised when he opened up the check and saw the amount Prine's family had donated.
