That mild pain at the pump we were experiencing as we watched gas prices creep up north of $2.70, creating fears that we were heading back toward the three-dollar mark, is now subsiding.

For someone with the occasional road trip (of any size) always in the back of his mind, I'll happily accept this news.

AAA East Central issued a press release detailing "fall back."

And here's the real eye-opener for me. The drop we're discussing isn't about a change from the previous month.

We're talking about a 9 cent drop (in Kentucky) from the previous WEEK!

And in west central Kentucky, the average price dropped from $2.51 to $2.40 a gallon.

In Owensboro, the average cost for a gallon is $2.33.

And, once again, Louisville chimes in with the highest average gas price in the state, at $2.60 a gallon.

But that's still 10 cents off the national average.

Oh,  by the way, as low as that Owensboro price is, Elizabethtown still wins this round with a $2.28 average.

I'm no economics expert. It was one of my worst subjects in high school AND college. So if there's an argument to be made that this actually ISN'T a good sign, I'm all ears.

And I won't argue. As I just stated, the economy would NOT be my favorite Jeopardy! category.

On the other hand, I'm not going to invite anyone to rain on my parade.

I like the lower gas prices. Keep 'em coming.
