The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has announced that a phased rollout of the new Kentucky driver's licenses is about to begin.

According to WYMT/Hazard, beginning in March and continuing through the spring, the new licenses will gradually become available to Kentucky residents.

In compliance with the Real ID Act, the rollout will conclude in May.

If you're not familiar, the Real ID Act requires the presence of certain information the current Kentucky licenses do not have.

In Daviess County, the Circuit Court Clerk's office will begin offering standard and Voluntary Travel ID credentials from March 25th through the 29th.

The schedule for all Kentucky counties is available at Drive.Ky.gov.

Now, keep in mind, this does not mean everyone has to head downtown and get a new license. You'll only need to do that when your current license expires. I just got mine last year, so I won't need to get until 2022, like always.

The Real ID Act will go into effect on October 1st, 2020. From that point forward, airports, military bases, and restricted federal buildings will need to see that Voluntary Travel ID or any type of federally-accepted identification.
