Apollo High School has announced that Dan Crume has been selected to serve Apollo High School as head football coach.

Crume, who teaches social studies at AHS, is currently the defensive coordinator for the Kentucky Wesleyan College football team, where his responsibilities include coordinating defensive strategies and defensive coaching personnel, in addition to recruiting players and staff.

His football resume also includes serving as assistant football coach at Owensboro Catholic High School (Fall 2009-Spring 2010) and serving as head football coach at Ohio County High School (2002-08). Before that, he was the defensive coordinator for Daviess County High School (1996-02); football feasibility committee chairman at Spencer County High School in Taylorsville (1996); defensive coordinator at Hancock County High School (1993-95); and paraprofessional assistant coach at Warren Central High School (1992).

Crume earned his bachelor of arts and master of science degrees at Western Kentucky University, where he is currently working toward his Rank I in educational administration.

Crume said he has high expectations for the Eagles’ football program and is eager to begin working with the student-athletes. “I am excited and thankful for the opportunity Mr. Broughton and the committee have given me,” he said.

Crume, who is a member of the Kentucky Football Coaches’ Association, has also served as a speaker and instructor at area football clinics and was named Nike Coach of the Year at clinics in Louisville in 2006 and 2008.

AHS Principal Charles Broughton said he is also excited about the future of Apollo football. “Dan Crume was the committee’s choice for head football coach at Apollo High School,” he said. “He stood apart due to his experience as head high school coach as well as college coaching experience. He has enthusiasm and a plan for moving Apollo Football in the right direction.”
