Kim Brown, whose brother Marc Brown is the author of the popular “Arthur” book series, will visit Audubon Elementary School at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, as part of the school’s “I Love to Read Day” activities. Kim Brown is the inspiration for D.W., Arthur’s younger sister, who is also a character in the books and on the PBS cartoon show.

Ms. Brown will read to the students in kindergarten through second grade at their assembly. The children will also receive an autographed stamp on their drawings.

According to the PBS website, the aardvark characters provide valuable opportunities for children to explore their feelings and their world:

Based on the children's books by Marc Brown, Arthur is an animated series for 4- to 8-year-olds that premiered in 1996. The series details the sometimes comic, sometimes emotional adventures of Arthur and his family and friends through engaging stories that explore issues faced by real kids. The series' goals are to help foster an interest in reading and writing, and to encourage the development of positive social skills.

WOMI encourages parents of those students who attend Audubon Elementary to discuss the visit and program with their children. It is very important that we, as adults and someone the kids look up to, show interest in what they experience in the classroom.
