The 2011 Owensboro Christmas Parade is just a few weeks away. Saturday, November 19, at 4:30 p.m. the 75th annual Christmas Parade will herald the beginning of the Christmas season. It  is sure to bring thousands of folks downtown. Even more will watch the event on TV either live or on delay scheduled for Thanksgiving Day.

If you have a group that would like to be in the parade, there is still time but not much. Just log on to the Christmas Parade Committee website and follow the simple instructions. I went there myself and if I can figure it out anyone can.

The site contains information regarding the type of float you can enter. The number of lights you can use and safety precautions.

If you just want to watch the parade I suggest you arrive early, bring a lawn chair of two, a camera, something to keep you warm and dry (you never know about cold and rain in the Ohio Valley) and some snacks and drinks. Since the parade began the evening start time the addition of lights to the event makes is even better. I also think the best place to view the parade is in front of the State Office Building on Second, just past Frederica.

Kevin Bruner and Bob Darling are both longtime volunteers with the Christmas Parade. They spent some time in the studio this morning talking about the annual event. I have posted the interview here.

I hope to see you either participating in or watching this years event.
