Sorgho Elementary School, Southern Oaks Elementary School and Whitesville Elementary School are hosting district Governor’s Cup competitions on Feb. 21 and Feb. 25.

 Composition/on-demand writing and Future Problem Solving competitions will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at the schools. In addition, five written assessment examinations in the areas of mathematics, science, social studies, language arts, and arts/humanities, along with a Quick Recall competition, are scheduled to be held at these three host sites on Saturday, Feb. 25. Winners of the Feb. 21 contests will be announced at this time.

 Schools in District 16 that will be competing at Southern Oaks are Burns Elementary School, West Louisville Elementary School, Calhoun Elementary School, Livermore Elementary School, and the host school, which is located at 7525 U.S. 431 – (270) 852-7570.

 Schools in District 17 that will be competing at Sorgho are Audubon Elementary School, Tamarack Elementary School, Owensboro Middle School 4-6 Campus, Owensboro Catholic 4-6 Campus, and the host school, which is located at 5390 Kentucky 56 – (270) 852-7470. 

Schools in District 18 that will be competing at Whitesville are Country Heights Elementary School, Deer Park Elementary School, East View Elementary School, Highland Elementary School, St. Mary Elementary School, and the host school, which is located at 9656 Kentucky 54 – (270) 852-7670. 

In the Elementary Division of Governor’s Cup academic contests, students in grades 5 and below compete in district and regional competitions. 

Winners are named in the following areas:

  • Top five scorers in each written assessment
  • First- and second-place Quick Recall teams
  • Top five scorers in written composition
  • First- and second-place teams in Future Problem Solving
  • First place and runner-up with most points for awards
  • Hume Sportsmanship Award, voted by all participating teams 

The schedule for the day at all three sites is as follows:

8 to 8:45 a.m. – Registration

9:10 to 11 a.m. – Written Assessment Testing

Approximately 11 a.m. – Quick Recall matches begin

Approximately 3 p.m. – Awards ceremony
