After the tragic death of Owensboro nurse Erica Owen in July, her aunt, Martina Billings, decided she wanted a memorial to honor Erica.

What she came up with is inspired.

Martina wants to create a memorial bench in honor of Erica and to do that, she needs as many plastic caps and lids as possible.

That's right. WBKR is a drop-off location. McFarland Cleanup Services on 11th Street is another location. I'm sure there are others.

As you can see, there's been no shortage of plastic caps and lids. Let's keep them coming, though. I talked to Martina about a week or so ago and she'll be collecting through mid-September.

As you can imagine, it takes a LOT of caps and lids to create a bench.

It's amazing how the community has turned out for this special project, but it also comes as no surprise at all.
